FRIPP ISLAND, S.C. — The High Point University men's golf team finished stroke play of the Big South Championship, placing tied for third, and will head to match play for the chance to win the program's first conference championship on Wednesday. The Panthers will be the fourth seed in match play after ending day one tied for fifth, but bounced back with an impressive second and third day to move up the standings.

The top four seeds head to match play with the semifinals set at 8:00 a.m., followed by the championship. The winner receives an automatic bid to a regional site of the NCAA Men's Golf Championship.

Head Coach Logan Davis: "Very proud of how the team played in stroke play. Everyone contributed and counted at least one round. We knew going into it step one is making match play, step one is done. The entire team is playing very solid golf and they are ready for match play tomorrow. We have a great game plan heading into tomorrow, and I am looking forward to seeing what this team can do. Step two and three are right ahead of us. Our motto this week has been, 'stay in the present.' No one has got too far ahead of themselves or let anything in the past bother them which has been amazing to see. I'm personally itching to get back out there to help these guys to victory! Big things coming from the team tomorrow!"

Through Three Rounds | Stroke Play Results

Hassell led the way for the Panthers after carding a 3-under-par 68 in both rounds two and three. He shot even on Par-3 holes, and five-under on Par-5s. The redshirt-sophomore finished with 12 birdies for an eighth-place finish. Jain had the best first round for HPU after shooting 3-under-par 68, and then carded a 1-under-par 70 in the third round. He shot 2-under on Par-5 holes with nine birdies, and finished 11th.

Pitcairn shot even in the first and third rounds while shooting even on Par-3 holes and 1-under on Par-5's. The redshirt senior finished in 13th place. Harrison, placing tied for 27th, bounced back with a strong, even finish in the final round of stroke play. The senior finished shooting 1-under on Par-5 holes and finished with the most pars of the tournament with 40 after having a bogey-free final 18. Shallat finished with a 1-under par 70 round two, six birdies, and the fifth most pars (37). The freshman also placed tied for 27th.
