Charlotte, N.C. — For the fifth time this season, the High Point University women's golf team swept the conference weekly awards as
Anna Howerton was named Big South Golfer of the Week while
Eva Lye earned Big South Freshman of the Week. It was announced by the league office on Friday morning.
Howerton earns her second weekly honor after a runner-up at the Daniel Island Invitational with a 6-under par 210 (68-72-70), as she shot even or lower through all three rounds. The junior opened with a tournament best 4-under-par 68 with five birdies in the first round, and then followed it with an even round 72 and a 2-under-par 70 final round. She was 5-under on Par 5 holes and sunk 10 birdies. Howerton was one stroke off of NC State's Marie Madesn, who is ranked No. 13 in the nation, for medalist honors while recording her third top-5 finish this season.
Lye, who earns her fourth weekly accolade, finished just behind Howerton on the leaderboard with a 5-under 211 (73-69-69) and joined Howerton on the All-Tournamen team. She helped the Panthers finish first in the 15-team field en route to her third top-5 finish this year. The freshman made five of her 12 birdies in the second round as she made 35 pars.
