BLACKSBURG, Va. / WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The High Point University women's track and field team split and competed at two meets over the weekend at the Doc Hale Invitational and the Camel City Invite.
The highlight of the weekend was
Ashlyn Giles breaking the program and Big South record in the women's shot put at the Camel City Invite. She threw 16.31m to beat the Big South record by .02 meters and win the event. In the weight throw she threw 16.14m for eighth place followed by Jill Stroup in ninth place with a 15.69m throw.
On Friday at the Doc Hale Invitational,
Gianna Paul kicked things off on the track in the 60 meter hurdles placing sixth in the prelims with an 8.65 time. She finished the finals with an 8.75 time for eighth.
In the women's 60m dash,
Zamesha Myle and
Quiana Williams placed fifth and sixth in the prelims to qualify for the finals. Myle finished third overall with a 7.51 personal best time and Williams finished fifth with a season-best 7.58 time in the finals.
Brianna Malone won the women's 3000m with a 9:30.83 time.
Closing out the night on the track in the women's 400m was
Dae'Nitra Hester who clocked a 56.54 time for sixth place.
In the field events on Friday,
Gabrielle Crane placed sixth in the women's long jump after launching 5.63m.
Kaitlin Richards competed in the women's pole vault unseeded event and recorded a new personal best 3.79m to place fifth.
On Saturday at the Doc Hale Invitational in the field events Myle competed in the women's triple jump and placed second with a 12.29m jump.
Ashari Pearson placed sixth in the women's high jump with a 1.50m bar. Rounding out the events on Saturday,
Lily Houston recorded a personal best in the women's pole vault with a 3.97m jump.

High Point now shifts its focus to Clemson University, where the Panthers will compete next at the Tiger Paw Invitational and the Asics Sound Running Invite during the weekend of February 13-14.
