ROCK HILL, S.C. - The High Point University women's basketball team led from start to finish Wednesday night, earning an 88-74 Big South road victory over Winthrop University.

High Point set the tone immediately, opening the game on a 12-0 run and holding Winthrop scoreless for more than seven minutes.
Aaliyah Collins scored the Panthers' first eight points in the paint, while the defense forced multiple early turnovers to build a 16-8 lead after the first quarter.
The Panthers continued to control the game in the second quarter, extending the margin behind efficient shooting and steady execution.
Macy Spencer connected from deep and attacked the rim, while
Brecken Snotherly added transition finishes as High Point carried a 37-26 advantage into halftime.
HPU seized full control in the third quarter, outscoring Winthrop 31-22 to push the lead past 20. Anna Hager knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter, and Spencer added timely baskets as the Panthers stretched the margin to 68-45 entering the fourth.
Winthrop made a push in the final quarter, but High Point answered every run at the free-throw line and from beyond the arc to close out the road win.
Spencer led all scorers with a career-high 38 points, a career-high 11-for-24 from the field and 11-for-12 at the line. Collins followed with 20 points, while Hager added nine points and
Dom Nesland pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
Peyton Gerdes chipped in 10 points off the bench.
High Point shot 46.8 percent from the field, tallied 36 points in the paint, and scored 22 points off turnovers in the victory.
