SITE: Vert Stadium
SCORE: High Point 10, Campbell 11
RECORDS: High Point (0-2), Campbell (2-1)
Head Coach Lyndsey Boswell: "Our execution was a problem today and we lacked discipline at times. A few calls didn't go our way early, and we weren't able to make the right adjustments. I believe when all units are at their best, we are very good, and I'm excited for the day it all comes together. I love this group, and I look forward to putting the work in with them this week."
The former Big South Conference foes traded blows, exchanging leads twice while tying four times throughout on a sunny day at Vert Stadium.
HPU's Katie Prentice was responsible for the first lead as she netted the first goal within two minutes.
Lily Trout followed with a score of her own — before adding another at the end of the quarter — and
Shannon Smith deposited a free-position goal in-between Trout's scores for a 4-1 lead.
The Fighting Camels scored four to the Panthers' two second-quarter goals. Prentice netted her second while Germani scored her first of three to break the tie, snapping a 3-0 Campbell scoring run to take the 6-5 halftime lead.
Smith opened the third quarter with a pair of goals for her first hat trick this season to extend the lead by a pair. The Fighting Camels scored two as the fourth quarter began to knot the score again, and then Germani put the Panthers ahead twice in back-to-back possessions with less than four minutes to play.
Campbell answered with consecutive scores to edge the Panthers late.
High Point won the draw control battle, 21-15, while picking up 21 ground balls to Campbell's 15.
Emerson Pekarcik won a career-high five draws as
Gracie Vickery had four and
Caitlyn Baehr picked up three draws and ground balls each.
Reese Dowgiallo led the way with two assists, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls; meanwhile, Germani picked up two ground balls and caused turnovers for the second straight game. In the cage,
Ava Welsh made nine saves — with five in the first quarter — and picked up five ground balls and forced one caused turnover.
