PRINCETON, N.J. — The High Point University men's cross country team finished fifth in the 8k at the Joe Handelman '52 Fall Classic on Friday evening at Princeton University.
Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Remy Tamer: "It was a revolving door of who our top dog was today. At any point, I would look up and see a new leader for the HPU men, and in some cases that man was leading the whole race. We like that. Although we gave up a few crucial spots in tough sections of the race, I believe the men held form enough to recognize their own strengths. It was far from perfect performance but it was the best we've looked this year and it proves we have more in the tank for conference in two weeks. Shout out Max Bonilla for stepping up and racing towards the front where he belongs. More to come from Max and his teammates."
The Panthers scored 145 points to finish fifth out of 20 scoring teams.
Avery Crowell led High Point where he placed 11th overall with a time of 24:28.0. Crowell was the Panthers' highest finisher.
Jackson Keefer was the second runner to finish for HPU with a time of 24:41.9, with Max Bonilla following crossing the finish line at 24:52.4. Next to finish was Gavin Stevens finishing at the 25:03.1 mark and Bence Acsádi coming in at 25:13.0.
To rounded out the Panthers eight runners was Gitch Hayes, Simon Triezenberg, and Blake Nicholson.
Greg Abel, Alex Contreras, Brayden Davis, Will Katic, Clark LaLomia, and Jimmy Mullarkey did not race for the Panthers.
Up next: High Point's next competition will be the Big South Conference Cross Country Championships on Friday, October 30, in Spartanburg, SC.
