Rubikas Named Top 100 Most Impactful Mid-Major Assistant Coaches

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - Martynas Rubikas, an assistant coach on the High Point University men's basketball team, was named a 2026 100 Most Impactful: Men's Mid Major Assistants/GM's. Head Coach Flynn Clayman was named to the list four times as an assistant coach before becoming High Point's head coach for the 2025-26 season.

The 7th annual Mid Major Coaches and GM's lists have seen numerous coaches go on to become Division 1 Head Coaches, like Coach Clayman. The Silver Waves Media list has become the industry standard for excellence. The 2026 Men's list features some of the most outstanding and impactful assistants and GM's in Division I Men's basketball and is determined based off a panel of industry professionals.

Coach Rubikas joined the High Point staff as a graduate assistant in the summer of 2023 and was promoted as an assistant coach by Coach Clayman prior to the start of the 2025-26 season. This season he has helped lead HPU to an overall record of 14-3 and a 2-0 start in Big South Conference play. The Panthers currently rank in the top-10 in multiple NCAA statistical categories including second in fastbreak points (21.88), fourth in steals per game (11.2), fifth in field goal percentage (52.8%) and eighth in scoring offense (93.9). In the Kenpom rankings High Point sits at 91st out of 365 Division I teams and ranked as high as 55th during the non-conference season.

Since working with the Panthers, he has helped the program grow to extraordinary success. In the last two seasons, High Point compiled and overall record of 56-15 with a 27-5 Big South record. HPU made its first ever-NCAA tournament appearance as the No. 13 seed in March of 2025 and played No. 3 seed Purdue. He has been a part of the staff that turned around an under .500 program and guided the Panthers to back-to-back outright Big South Regular Season titles for the first time in program history. High Point became the first team in the Big South since 2011 (Coastal Carolina) to win back-to-back outright regular season titles.

HPU finished with an overall record of 29-6 during the 2024-25 season, which tied for the most wins in Big South program history (Winthrop, 2006-07) and the most wins in HPU program history. The Panthers finished the regular season with a 26-5 record and a 14-2 league record. The 26 regular-season wins is the most in program history and tied the Big South regular-season wins record with Coastal Carolina's 2010-11 season (26-4).

Catch Assistant Coach Rubikas and the Panthers in action on Wednesday, January 7 at 7:00 p.m. inside the Qubein Center as they welcome Gardner-Webb to High Point for a Big South matchup.
