High Point Rolls Past Radford on Saturday Afternoon

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The High Point University women's basketball team controlled the floor for a, 78-40, statement win over Radford University on Saturday afternoon.

Site: Qubein Center
Score: High Point 78, Radford 40
Records: High Point (15-2, 4-0), Radford (9-9, 1-2)

Head Coach Chelsea Banbury: "That was fun. I'm just really proud of the girls and I think this was a statement win, we knew this was a big game. Radford's a really good team and we prepared for them and had a couple good days of practice. We came out and played hard for a 38 point win, which I do think is a statement win. The third quarter was definitely the difference maker. We had a lot of contributions from a lot of different people. I think we executed the game plan pretty well."

After an even start, High Point began to create separation midway through the first quarter, while Nevaeh Zavala converted consecutive finishes in the paint to spark an early run.

High Point continued to extend its lead in the second quarter with balanced scoring across the lineup. Dom Nesland and Anna Hager provided production around the basket, while Macy Spencer added a three late in the half as the Panthers took a 29-18 advantage into the break.

The Panthers put the game away coming out of halftime, erupting for 36 points in the third quarter while holding Radford to just 10. High Point extended the lead to more than 30 during the quarter and never looked back.

High Point's dominance was fueled by its work on the glass. Hager recorded a career-high 15 rebounds, while Nesland posted a career-best 14 boards, as the Panthers won the rebounding battle 50-39

Spencer led all scorers with 23 points, while Paxixe added 13 points off the bench. Zavala and Brecken Snotherly each finished with 10 points as HPU showcased its depth. High Point's bench outscored the Highlander's bench, 31-9.

The Panthers shot 45.9 percent from the field and held Radford to 22.9 percent shooting, while scoring 18 points off turnovers in the victory.

Up Next: High Point has the week off before returning to Longwood University on Saturday, January 17 at 2:00 p.m.
