CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced the Women's Golfers of the Week on Thursday afternoon, naming High Point University's
Makayla Grubb as the Freshman of the Week and
Anna Howerton as the Golfer of the Week.
The Panthers' secured a second-place finish at their first event of the season at the Golfweek Fall Challenge. This is the best HPU has ever finished in this event and with a 20-team field.
Freshman of the Week - Makayla Grubb
In Grubb's first collegiate tournament, she carded a Top-13 finish as she improved in each round, shooting 76 on Sunday followed by an even-par 71 and a team-best 4-under-par 67 over the final 18. In her three rounds of play, she carded a team-tying 11 birdies. This is Grubb's first Freshman of the Week award.
Golfer of the Week - Anna Howerton
Howerton finished fourth overall at last week's outing. Her 3-under-par 68 round three powered her 2-under finish to pair with rounds of 71 and 72, respectively. She also had a team-tying 11 birdies. This is Howerton's first Golfer of the Week award this season.
