CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — The Women's Golf Coaches Association announced its 2024-25 WGCA All-American Scholars as four High Point University women's golfers were recognized with the prestigious honor on Monday.
Ella Perna,
Anais Arafi,
Ambre Matlega, and
Savannah Cherry were the four Panthers named to the list, joining 1,499 student-athletes from 403 universities across the country.
It's the second straight year HPU has had four or more named a WGCA All-American Scholar. Perna earns her second All-American Scholar honor as a junior, while the trio of freshmen — Arafi, Matlega and Cherry — are honored with their first.
Perna played in every tournament and is a health and wellness major. Arafi and Matlega are both business administration majors and played in eight and six events, respectively, as Cherry is an undecided major and competed in eight tournaments.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics and continue to demonstrate the high-level academic achievements of our players.
To be selected, a student-athlete must have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher. They also must be an amateur and on the team's roster through the conclusion of the team's season and have played in 50 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team's conference championship.
