LYNCHBURG, Va. – The High Point University men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia to compete at the Liberty Twilight for a mid-week meet on Tuesday.
In the men's discus throw,
Alex Hoffman placed fourth after throwing a career-best 48.93m. He also threw in the men's hammer and placed second throwing 57.49m.
Caleb Barley threw 15.43m in the men's shot put and placed first overall while
Demetrio Lukaitis threw 52m flat for fourth place in the men's javelin.
Elise Magaard had a solid day in both the women's shot put and the discus placing third in both events. In the shot put, she threw 12.19m and in the discus she threw 42.50m. Jill Stroup also competed in the women's throwing events and placed fourth in the hammer after throwing 48.99m.
High Point had a strong group performance in the women's pole vault led by
Sydney Horn who broke the program and Big South record with a 4.46m clear to earn first-place.
Emily Romano placed third with a season-best 4.22m clear,
Auriane Viola placed fourth clearing 4.12m and
Rachel Vesper placed fifth with a 4.12m bar.
For the men's pole vault,
Ricardo Montes de Oca won the event clearing an outdoor season-best 5.21m.
In the distance running events, High Point's women's team ran in the 1500m race.
Evie Wild had the highest placement in sixth place with a new personal best, 4:29.04 time which shaved off 10 seconds from her previous time.

High Point will prepare to defend the men's and women's outdoor track and field titles at the Big South Championships next week beginning on Monday, May 12. The meet will last three days at the Karl Straus Track in Asheville, North Carolina.
