Ten Panthers Earn Big South All-Conference Accolades

HIGH POINT, N.C. — The 2025 Big South Conference Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Teams were announced on Thursday as High Point University had 10 student-athletes honored, which is voted on by league coaches.  

Of the honorees, Bella Germani was named the Big South Newcomer of the Year while joining Allie Connally, Julia Dustin and Ava Welsh on the Big South First Team. Esprit Cha, Haley Urban, Shannon Smith, and Reese Dowgiallo were tabbed to the Big South Second Team. High Point had the most first and second team picks of any Big South team, while Mandy Brockamp was named a Big South Honorable Mention and Tatum Mehring earned All-Academic honors.

The group helped lead the Panthers to score 20 or more goals in eight games — seven being in conference — while registering five scoreless quarters, featured by shutting out Gardner-Webb in the second half and blanking Virginia Tech in the third quarter.
 
Bella Germani, Junior, Midfielder, First Team All-Conference + Newcomer of the Year
 
Starting in 15 of 16 appearances, Germani was among the top five in three categories: fifth in goals (31), fifth in ground balls (18), and third in caused turnovers (16). She had seven games where she had multiple goals plus ground balls and caused turnovers. She netted two or more goals nine times and had a career-high goals five at Longwood. She had two games with three ground balls and five with two, while having two or more caused turnovers in four games with a career-high three against Winthrop. Germani had seven perfect shot-on-goal performances and becomes the second straight Panther to earn Big South Newcomer of the Year accolades.
 
Allie Connally, Senior, Attack, First Team All-Conference
 
Starting in all 16 games, Connally had a team-leading 70 points (39 goals, 31 assists) and scored two or more points in each en route to her first-career first team accolade. The Big South Offensive Player of the Week (Feb. 18) had eight games with a perfect shot-on-goal percentage, while having five games with six points and two with a career-high seven. Connally led the team in draw controls (92) and had two 10-plus draw games, with career-best 11 coming in the season finale at Radford. She dished out a career-high six assists versus Gardner-Webb, while having three games with four assists.
 
Julia Dustin, Sophomore, Defender, First Team All-Conference
 
Starting in all 16 games, Dustin led the team in caused turnovers (29) while being third in ground balls (29). The sophomore defender had two or more caused turnovers in 12 games as she had three against Liberty, Elon and Longwood. The Big South Defensive Player of the Week (Apr. 8) picked up a ground ball in 14 games, scooping up three in five games and a career-high four versus Elon. This is her first all-conference accolade.
 
Ava Welsh, Sophomore, Goalie, First Team All-Conference
 
Starting in every game (16), the two-time Big South Defensive Player of the Week (Mar. 25, Apr. 1) led the Big South in save percentage (.439). Welsh had five games with 10 or more saves as she had a career-high 18 saves against ranked Navy. The sophomore goalie racked up 14 saves in the team's upset win over Virginia Tech, where her first scoreless quarter came when she blanked the Hokies in the third quarter. In all, Welsh led the Panthers to five scoreless quarters to pick up all 11 wins. She had 127 saves in 475 shots faced and led the team in ground balls (39) as she turns her Big South Preseason All-Conference honors into her first Big South First Team accolade.
 
Esprit Cha, Senior, Attack, Second Team All-Conference
 
Starting in all 16 games, Cha led the team in goals (55) and third in points (64). She netted a goal in every game as she had two or more in 13 of them. Cha scored a career-high seven goals against William & Mary as she scored six straight on a perfect shot-on-goal percentage en route to a career-high eight points. The captain attacker had eight unblemished SOG% games and scored two or more points in 14 games. Cha netted four or more goals in nine games and had three with six or more. She earns all-conference honors for the second year in a row.
 
Haley Urban, Redshirt Freshman, Defender, Second Team All-Conference
 
Starting in 15 of her 16 appearances, Urban was second in ground balls (31) and second in caused turnovers (17). The redshirt freshman had six games with three ground balls and 13 with at least one, including a career-high four versus Wofford. She had three games with three caused turnovers and 11 with at least one. She had a ground ball and caused turnover hat trick combo against Mercer en route to her first all-conference accolade.
 
Shannon Smith, Junior, Attack, Second Team All-Conference
 
Starting in every game (16), Smith was second in goals (47) and fourth in points (58). The Big South Offensive Player of the Week (Apr. 1) had six games with four goals or more as a career-high six goals came against Winthrop. She scored four goals in the team's upset win over Virginia Tech and netted at least one goal in every game. Smith registered two or more points in all 16 games as a career-high seven came against the Eagles. She had five games with a perfect shot-on-goal percentage and earns her first all-conference accolade.
 
Reese Dowgiallo, Junior, Attack, Second Team All-Conference
 
Playing in 15 games while starting in 14, Dowgiallo led the team in assists (35), second in points (67) while netting 32 goals. The junior attacker had an assist in 13 games, featured by nine where she had two or more, with three outings having four dishes and a pair with five or more. Dowgiallo scored a goal in 12 games as she had 10 games with two or more scores as well as four games with four goals. She led the Panthers to the upset win over Virginia Tech, scoring a then career-high eight points (four goals, four assists) en route to Big South Offensive Player of the Week (Mar. 25). She had a new career-best nine-point game against Wofford, registering four or more points in nine games and dishing out a career-high six assists in the regular-season finale at Radford. This is Dowgiallo first all-conference honor.
 
Mandy Brockamp, Senior, Midfielder, Honorable Mention All-Conference
 
Starting in every game (16), Brockamp scored 13 goals and 17 points. She had a pair of hat tricks while picking up two or more ground balls in four games as she had three against Liberty and Elon. Brockamp, a captain, had three or more draw controls in five games with a season-high six at Liberty. This honor earns the 2022 Big South Freshman of the Year her third all-conference accolade.
 
Tatum Mehring, Redshirt Junior, Defender, All-Academic Team
 
For the second year in a row, Mehring has been named to the All-Academic Team. The defender started in every game (16) while scooping up 18 ground balls and causing nine turnovers. She had a career-high three caused turnovers at Duke and picked up a career-high four ground balls at Mercer. Mehring holds a 3.97 GPA in her biology major with a concentration in health sciences.
