HIGH POINT N.C. — The High Point University women's lacrosse team took on the Liberty University Flames Saturday afternoon, returning to Vert Stadium for the first time since Feb. 21. The Panthers fell to the Flames 11-10. Four Panthers finished with two goals each: Tatum Goettelmann, Anna Checkosky, Shannon Smith, and Jaidyn Donley. This was Checkosky's first multi-goal game of her collegiate career.

Head Coach Lyndsey Boswell: "We are very disappointed with this loss, but also optimistic with the level of fight we showed today. We had some big time plays coming off the bench and unfortunately, we just couldn't close it out. Credit to Liberty for making the play at the end of the game."
Kate Prentice got the Panthers on the board off a pass from Lily Trout, and with just under a minute to play in the opening quarter, Smith found Goettelmann, who gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead. Liberty responded, and the two squads went into the second quarter tied at two apiece.
After Liberty took a one-goal lead, Smith tied the game with 9:43 remaining in the first half. Donley then tied the game once again on a free-position shot. The Panthers made it 5-4, as Sydney Martin found Goettelmann for her first career assist.
Liberty matched the goal as both teams were once again tied at the end of the first half.

Donley opened up the scoring for the Panthers in the second half on another free-position goal. She then assisted on Bella Germani's goal, which gave the Panthers a 7-6 lead. Smith knotted the game at eight on a free-position shot of her own.
Trout found Checkosky for the sophomore's first goal of the season. Just over four minutes later, Checkosky scored again as the Panthers brought the game back within one this time off a pass from Smith.
The Panthers battled until the end but came up just short.
Haley Urban, Julia Dustin, and Caitlyn Baehr each recovered three ground balls, while Germani caused a career-high four turnovers and Dustin forced three. Martin recovered two ground balls and caused two turnovers. Ava Welsh finished with seven saves and a career-high four caused turnovers and career-best eight ground balls. In all, the Panthers caused 18 of the Flames' 26 turnovers.
