Head Coach Joey Hammond: "Obviously happy to get out of here; it was a long two days a lot of baseball to get out of here with three wins on the road. Sweeping on the road is not easy to do at any time, so I'm really proud of the guys for being able to do that. I thought our offense was fantastic all weekend long when we needed to be. It wasn't easy and I'm proud of our guys to come away with the three wins we showed up here for. We need to continue to get better, keep working because we have things that we need to clean up, but it's a good spot to be in right now."
Dalton Hitt got the start in the series finale on Sunday, pitching only one inning and giving up four earned runs. He was relieved by Joey Tuttoilmondo.
The High Point offense jumped out to a great start with back-to-back hits by Landen Johnson and Brayden Simpson resulting in one run scored in the top of the first. Longwood would respond scoring a run, tying the game at one in the bottom of the first.
A Three Hillier home run gave HPU a 3-1 lead in the top of the second. Brayden Simpson continued to have a hot series hitting a no doubt three-run HR extending the lead to 6-1 in the second.
The Lancers plated three runs to cut into the HPU lead. Konni Durschlag hit a double to start the two-out rally in the third as Miggy Echazarreta was walked before Johnson hit an RBI single to push the lead to 7-4.
In the top of the fourth, Jace Kohler hit a two-out single resulting in an RBI triple from Hillier to HPU another run with two outs.
Adrian Montenegro (W, 1-0) came into relief during the fifth inning with bases loaded and did a good job managing to give up one run.
Christian Smith hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning — his second home run of the series — to start the onslaught of runs for HPU. After hits by Hillier and Durschlag, Echazarreta hit another three-run home run resulting in six runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Longwood would plate two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but HPU would respond with homers by Simpson and Smith, continuing their red-hot days at the plate. Howell Polk came into the game in the eighth inning, pitching a scoreless inning.
A Johnson double, and walks by Jackson Melton and Simpson, led to a Smith RBI double in the ninth. Melton scored on a walk, giving HPU 19 runs on the day.
Dalton Olsovsky entered the game in the ninth and tossed a scoreless ninth frame to finish the sweep.
