Score: High Point 25, NC A&T 12
Records: High Point (26-11, 10-2), NC A&T (12-23, 7-5)
Head Coach Joey Hammond: "Good to add a win to the total and really proud of the offenses production tonight. The 12 run second inning set the tone and we stacked eight or nine consecutive quality at bats during that inning and really allowed us to stay aggressive at the plate. A lot of individual standout performances but I'm especially happy for
Wyatt Ewanowski and Rocco Demarinis for collecting their first college hits (Wyatt a Grand slam). We hope to build on this as we return home for a series vs UNC Asheville."
The Panthers jumped to an early 1-0 lead in their first at-bats as
Landen Johnson flew a sac fly to center field as
Konni Durschlag tagged and scored from third base after he reached on an error.
The Aggies plated a run in the bottom of the first after a wild pitch scored the runner on third to tie the game at one.
After 17 batters and 10 hits later, HPU plated 12 runs in the second inning as they almost batted around twice. All before recording the first out, the Panthers sent a merry-go-round around the bases as
James Murphy,
Brayden Simpson, and
Jace Kohler hit the home runs for HPU. Kohler's home run was his first of his career as he sent an opposite field homer over the right field wall.
Durschlag added an RBI to his line in the top of the third with a single up the middle scoring the runner from second.
A three-run home run and an RBI single by the Aggies in the fourth cut their deficit to eight.
Murphy got on base with a leadoff single in the fifth inning before
Justin Ruiz went off the wall for an RBI double to hand HPU its 15th run. With the bases loaded, Johnson sent a two-run single through the right side to keep stacking runs for HPU. Two more runs crossed as Kohler sent a two RBI single down the third base line to cap a six run fifth inning for the Panthers.
The runs kept coming in the sixth inning as
Wyatt Ewanowski recorded his first career hit and home run in grand slam fashion to extend the lead to 24-6.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Aggies worked to plate four runs on four hits. With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh,
Jack Clark tagged and scored on a SAC fly to center field by
Frank Kelly.
Cohen Harris split time with
Mac Kimel to close the game out in the seventh inning as HPU mercy ruled the Aggies, 25-12, on Tuesday night.
