HIGH POINT, N.C. - The High Point University women's rowing team completed its first race of the 2025 spring season at Oak Hollow Lake as they hosted George Mason University on Saturday morning.
Head Coach Jessica Deitrick: "Today was a good day for HPU rowing. It was our first home regatta and we swept the races! Each boat executed their race plans well and made improvements from our previous scrimmages. We are excited to continue to build and find more speed throughout the spring season."
High Point started bright and early on the water at Oak Hollow Lake. Deitrick sent out four boats to compete against the Patriots.
The 1v4 race was sent out at 7:40 a.m. with
Arianna Ording at coxswain.
Caroline Marchis,
Aliyah Strickland,
Emma Spencer, and
Morgan Bowdish all rowed to a time of 8:14.69 to finish before the Patriots who sat at a 9:08.42 time in the 2,000 meter course.
The next race that followed was a 2v4 boat with
Lucia Calvert as the coxswain.
Lilly Fowler,
Price Rinker,
Josephine Chapuis, and
Sydney Rogness rowed to a 8:30.99 time over the Patriots 9:40.87 slot.
Carolyn Fox as the coxswain in the 2v8 boat put up the second best time of the morning races.
Madelyn Cummings,
Casey Derrenbacher,
Josie Ganshaw,
Sarah Harvey,
Angelina Ruiz,
Gianna Ward,
Genevieve Alexander, and
Riley Verner placed with a 7:23.13 time over the 8:06.98 time from George Mason.
The last boat of the race completed High Point's fastest time of the day. A 7:04.77 time in the 1v8 boat led by
Grayson Williams at the coxswain, accompanied by
Kate Concepcion,
Saige Wiggins,
Mallory Sullivan,
Anna Venditti,
Alison Sims,
Caitlin Enright,
Audrey Houle, and
Willow Conley. George Mason's 1v8 was not too far behind with a 7:15.91 time to complete the day at Oak Hollow Lake.
