VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – For the fifth time in her career,
Sydney Horn of the High Point University women's track and field team qualified and competed at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Horn made the podium for the fourth time at the Indoor Championships and was crowned a First Team All-American after placing seventh overall.
"
Sydney Horn earns her fourth - first team All-American for indoor track and field and I am extremely proud of Sydney for an incredible season," Pole Vault Coach
Scott Houston stated. "Her seventh-place finish is not her highest placement, however, this is best collegiate field in history, and she held her own very well. She had a little bit left to be desired and just barely missed clearing 4.50m, which would have placed in the run for the top three."
"Sydney represents the Panthers better than anyone has in the history of the school. She's a very special individual and has put High Point on the national stage for the past five years. We're very proud of Sydney and look forward to finishing out her special career as a Panther."
The meet opened at a 4.25-meter bar, which was the highest height it has ever opened at during an NCAA Championship. Being one of 16 athletes to come in at the first bar, Horn cleared it with ease on her first attempt.
Following the first bar at 4.25m, Horn along with 13 other athletes moved to the second bar at 4.40m. Horn raced down the runway on her first attempt but clipped the bar slightly on her way down. She regrouped on her second attempt and sailed over the bar, advancing to the 4.50m height.
Horn gave it three strong attempts at the 4.50m height before finishing in a three-way tie for seventh place with her 4.40m height.
Horn is the most decorated High Point student-athlete in program history since joining the Panthers in the fall of 2020.
