BLACKSBURG, Va. – On Friday and Saturday, the High Point University men's and women's track and field teams traveled up to Blacksburg, Virginia to compete at the Virginia Tech Challenge hosted by Virginia Tech. This was the Panthers' second time competing at Virginia Tech during the indoor season.
A handful of athletes competed on Friday afternoon.
Sydney Horn broke her own High Point and Big South record in the women's pole vault after soaring over 4.57m to take first place in the competition, ahead of all power five athletes. She broke her previous record of 4.51m that she set last indoor season at the Big South Championships.
In the women's weight throw, Jill Stroup threw a new personal best 14.08m. On the men's side,
Alex Hoffman placed first overall after throwing the weight 17.63m.
Rounding out the events on Friday,
Reid Holloway posted a new personal best in the men's pole vault with a 5.32m clearance to place seventh.
On Saturday, another select group of student-athletes competed from both the men's and women's teams.
In the women's unseeded pole vault category,
Emily Romano took first place after clearing 4.05m. In the men's unseeded pole vault group, Jackson Toumey placed third clearing 5.18m followed by
Maxwell Robinson and
Gabe Imery who both cleared 4.88m and placed sixth.
Alex Hoffman placed third in the men's shot put recording a season-best 16.15m.
Elise Magaard placed fourth in the women's shot put after throwing a personal best 12.06m.
UP NEXT:
High Point will compete at the Big South Indoor Championships in Columbia, South Carolina on Friday, February 28 and February 29. The Panthers look to defend both the men's and women's titles for the third straight season.
