Score: High Point 10, Toledo 4

Head Coach Joey Hammond: "Obviously a good win. We thought Wade (Walton) did a good job of fighting through after the first inning. He struggled having his secondary pitches in the strike zone, but he still found a way to make pitches when he needed to. I'm happy that Mateo (Wells) and Nick (Semon) got in the game to get their feet wet. I felt like we handled the baseball, we had that one error, but it was a tough play so it's okay. Offensively when we get five, two out RBI's in the first two innings alone, our offense was fantastic. Really proud of our guys, big win."
Wade Walton got the start for High Point in game one. Walton worked his way out of a few jams but still managed to minimize Toledo's offense. With five innings pitched, six hits, two runs, and seven strikeouts, Walton earned his second win of the season backed by another game of explosive High Point offense.
High Point scored six runs in the first inning to set themselves up the rest of the evening.
Brayden Simpson started it off with an RBI single to right field to score
Konni Durschlag. After that, the hits started to fall as the runs started to score. HPU batted around the order highlighted by Durschlag going 2-2 in the first inning.
The Rockets answered in the top of the second scoring just one run, before HPU added three more runs in the bottom half of the frame.
Jake McCarter smoked his first homer as a Panther for a two-run shot. Followed by
Jackson Melton doubling off the left field wall to score another run.
Toledo would add another run in the third, off an RBI single up the middle. Two full frames of no scoring led to High Point scoring an insurance run as
Christian Smith singled to right field with the bases loaded to score the teams 10th run. The Rockets would have an answer with a two-run double to right field in the seventh to cut the HPU lead to six.
Mateo Wells and
Nick Semon split the rest of the game on the mound as they both shut down the Rockets offense leading to a game one win for the Panthers to remain undefeated.
