Records: High Point (7-0), Toledo (1-5)
Head Coach Joey Hammond: "Good to get a series win, those are big. A lot of stuff we had to work through, early lead offense is really good. They settled the game down and answered like good clubs do. Dylan (Story) did an awesome job. That sixth inning he was awesome. He did an amazing job with a shutout inning right after Toledo had that big hit. I thought Joey (Tuttoilmondo) did a fantastic job as well. We made plays when we needed to make plays, I was proud of the guys. We dealt with some energy and had some emotion, a lot of good things. So now we got a quick turnaround to get ready for tomorrow."
Dylan Story took the ball in game two as he earned his first win in the Division I level. Story went six innings, allowed eight hits, five runs, striking out four batters. He pitched a great game as he was able to bounce back after giving up the game tying home run in the fourth inning.
Joey Tuttoilmondo relieved Story when he came in to pitch the final three innings and earned his first save of the year. Tuttoilmondo was lights out, only allowing one hit, and striking out three batters.
Konni Durschlag led the game off for HPU with a solo home run to continue his success at the plate. High Point had a quick 2-0 lead after the first frame as
Landen Johnson tallied another RBI as he grounded out to second to score
James Murphy.
Jackson Melton added to the HPU lead with a two-run home run in the second inning.
Toledo cut into the Panthers lead putting up a crooked number in the third frame. An RBI double and two RBI singles added three runs to the Rockets line. Toledo kept crawling back inning after inning as HPU went scoreless for two full frames. Two more runs crossed the plate off two solo homers to tie the ballgame at five in the fourth inning.
Melton added three more RBI's to his card with a bases loaded, bases clearing double to take the three run lead over the Rockets in the fifth. Toledo did not find an answer until the top of the seventh with another solo home run to make it an 8-6 ball game.
Tuttoilmondo shut the Toledo lineup down after giving up that one home run to earn the win for HPU to remain undefeated with a perfect, 7-0 start.
Up Next: High Point will host Toledo tomorrow for the final game of the series at 12:00 p.m at Williard Stadium
