Group of Women's Distance Opens Season at Boston University

BOSTON, Mass. – The High Point University women's track and field team shipped up to Boston for a meet at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at Boston University. A select group of distance runners made the trip, including Brianna Malone, Alyssa Hendrix and Danielle Jensen.

Malone kicked things off in the women's 3000m and opened in heat one. In her heat she battled to the front group in the last couple laps and finished seventh in the heat with a 9:11.64 time in front of runners from Villanova, Yale, Washington and N.C. State. Malone placed seventh overall and was two seconds shy of her own school record.

Hendrix and Jensen raced in the women's 5000m. Hendrix registered a 16:22.04 time for a new personal best that shaved off five seconds. Jensen clocked a new lifetime best 16:30.82 time to start the season which was 30 seconds faster than her previous personal best at the Big South Indoor Championships last winter.

UP NEXT: The Panthers will have a month off of competition before returning from Christmas break to compete at Tryon Intercollegiate Opener in Tryon, N.C. on January 10. This is the same facility that the Big South Indoor Championships will be held at in February.
