LYNCHBURG, Va. – The High Point University women's track and field team traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia to compete at the Liberty Kickoff for the opening indoor meet on Thursday and Friday as three new Panthers broke school records in their first meet in Purple & White.
In the women's pentathlon,
Mya Hines finished fifth in her first HPU meet and set a school record with 3560 points, while
Jhanelle Thomas finished with 3153 points in her first collegiate meet and
Kaitlyn Greene finished with 2836 points.
In the women's shot put,
Ashlyn Giles had herself a HPU debut, setting a school record with a 15.00m throw for first place, while
Vanessa Kobialka was the next best with a 11.33m toss. Giles, a Wake Forest transfer, also participated in the women's weight throw, finishing in eighth place with a throw of 15.38m.
Zamesha Myle followed suit of Hines and Giles with her own record-setting first meet in her new colors as she placed first in the triple jump and shattered the previous mark with a 13.04m leap, which is the third best mark in Big South history. The graduate transfer from Ohio State also placed fourth in the 60m dash with a sprint of 7.56.
Gabrielle Crane finished in fifth place in the women's long jump with a 5.79m leap.
Ashari Pearson and
Amelia Moreland competed in the women's high jump as Pearson cleared the 1.58m bar with Moreland clearing 1.48m.
In the women's pole vault, High Point's best finishers were
Grady Moyer as she placed third with 3.75m jump on Thursday and
Emily Romano with a 4.05m clearance for second place on Friday.
In the women's 400m race,
Dae'Nitra Hester represented the Panthers and finished in second place with a time of 56.83. In the 800m race,
Cailyn Stine finished in third place recording a time of 2:23.65, while
Mikayla Moxley had High Point's best time in the mile at 5:20.17 for fifth.
Gianna Paul had a sixth-place finish in the 200m dash behind a 25.14 time.
UP NEXT: High Point will look to build on its season-opening indoor meet success as a handful of HPU distance runners will travel to Boston, Mass. to compete in the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday, December 6.
