High Point Signs Two from Class of 2026

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men's basketball team signed two freshmen on National Signing Day from the class of 2026. The Panthers bring in point guard, Trey Pearson and combo guard, Alexandros Alexakis for the 2026-27 season.

Pearson, a native of Hendersonville, Tennessee, is a 6'2" point guard who will join the Panthers as a true freshman after graduating from Pope John Paul II. Pearson is ranked as a four-star recruit out of high school, selected as the top point guard in the state of Tennessee and the 116th ranked player in the country. As a top recruit, Pearson is the highest rated player and first 247 Composite four-star recruit to sign with any Big South program out of high school. Pearson is a pure point guard who operates the game with good pace, strong vision and high IQ, making him a strong fit for the Panthers system under Head Coach Flynn Clayman.

At Pope John Paul II, Pearson is averaging 15.0 points per game, 8.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.2 steals through six games to start the 2025-26 season.

For Brad Beal Elite in the Nike EYBL circuit, Pearson led his team to back-to-back EYBL Peach Jam championships in the summers of 2024 and 2025, averaging double figure scoring, while being an EYBL leader in assists averaging over 5.0 assists per game. The EYBL circuit is considered the top club team circuit and has produced the most NBA players of any grassroots circuit.

"Trey is a coach's dream of a point guard", Clayman commented. "He is a winner, gets his teammates involved while protecting the ball and handling pressure, and scores at all three levels. He is a proven winner at the high school and EYBL levels and HPU basketball fans should expect nothing less from him when he arrives. He comes from a great basketball family and represents all of our program and university values."

Alexakis, an international student from Greece, is a 6'5" guard who will join the Panthers after spending the past two seasons at SoCal Academy in Southern California. A season ago, he averaged 13.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Prior to coming to the United States, Alexakis played for Greece's national team during the 2023 and 2024 seasons on the FIBA U16 and U18 EuroBasketball teams. During those two seasons, Alexakis averaged 10.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.

Alexakis will bring top tier skill work and knowledge to the HPU program after growing up in Europe, allowing him to be a strong asset to the team.

"Alex is a player coming from a great high school his last two seasons in So Cal Academy after being one of the top Greek players growing up," Clayman added. "He is multidimensional in his game as a true combo guard and tough defender. His hard work ethic and positive impact will make him as valuable to our program as his skill set."

Once Pearson and Alexakis finish out their senior seasons in high school, they will join the Panthers in June to start training for the 2026-27 season.
