Cael Chatham Signs With Pioneer Baseball League

HIGH POINT, N.C.Cael Chatham of High Point University baseball signed with the Great Falls Voyagers in Great Falls, Montana. The Voyagers are a part of the Pioneer Baseball League that is based in the Western United States as one of four Major League Baseball Partner Leagues. Chatham becomes the third signee to sign a professional contract this year.

The Woodstock, Georgia native transferred from LaGrange College to become the every day third basemen in the Panthers lineup after four years at LaGrange. A two-year starter in the Purple & White, Chatham was a vacuum at third base as well as a real power threat at the plate.

"Cael Chatham has been a true professional since the day he showed up at HPU and I'm so happy that he carries that title officially now," HPU Head Coach Joey Hammond said. "Cael is one of the purest hitters this program has seen and his path from a Division III powerhouse (LaGrange) to help lead HPU to its first ever Big South Championship and NCAA Regional berth is inspirational. We will miss seeing him man the hot corner and anchor the meat of our lineup, but we are scored to follow his professional career. Congrats Cael!"

Chatham played a total of 116 games in a High Point uniform as a .319 career hitter. This past season, Chatham led the 2024 Big South Champions with a .318 batting average as he smashed 17 homers, 15 doubles, one triple and drove in 55 runs. Starting all 62 games, Chatham tallied a .940 fielding percentage at the hot corner and was a part of nine double plays.

Not only was Chatham a threat in the field and in the batter's box, he had a good arm on the mound as he made 16 appearances in relief. A 1.86 ERA in 19.1 innings thrown led to a team and conference-leading seven saves and a perfect 2-0 record.

"It means the so much to sign a professional contract," Chatham said. "It has been a dream of mine to play professional baseball since I could pick up a bat and ball. After my senior year of high school, I didn't know if that dream would be attainable. It wasn't until after my freshman year where I played pretty well that I thought this could turn into a dream come true. But I really knew I had a shot at playing professional baseball when [Coach] Joey [Hammond] gave me the opportunity to play Division I at High Point."
