HIGH POINT, N.C. – The 2024 Big South Conference Baseball All-Conference Teams were announced on Wednesday as High Point University had six student-athletes honored on the end-of-year award lists.
Adam Stuart was tabbed with Scholar-Athlete of the Year for his performance on and off the field.
Cael Chatham,
Gus Hughes,
Eric Grintz, and
Peyton Carr all earned First Team All-Conference honors, while Chatham also earned Second Team All-Conference for his outings in relief.
Matt Little and Stuart were listed as Honorable Mention All-Conference.
Adam Stuart, Gr., Shortstop: Scholar Athlete of the Year + Honorable Mention + All-Academic Team
Stuart started all 56 games at shortstop for the Panthers in his fifth season in the Purple and White. A one-time Player of the Week honoree this season, Stuart ranks in the Big South Top 10 this season in at-bats (223), RBI (46), doubles (15), triples (2) and sacrifice flies (6). Stuart held a .965 fielding percentage as he turned 30 doubles plays and recorded 154 assists. In the classroom, he earned his master's of business administration as he held a 3.94 GPA.
Cael Chatham, Gr. Third Base: First Team All-Conference + Second Team All-Conference
Chatham started all 56 games at third base as he also made 14 appearances on the mound for High Point. A one-time Player of the Week and Reliever of the week award winner was a two-way player this season hitting for an average of .322, slugging 16 home runs, 15 doubles, and 53 RBI's. Chatham led the conference all season long in base on balls as he drew 45 walks. On the mound, he led the conference in saves with seven as he has 17.2 innings pitched under his belt. With a 1.02 ERA, Chatham struck out 12 batters and only let up two runs on 18 hits.
Eric Grintz, Gr. Catcher: First Team All-Conference
Grintz appeared in 51 games, making 41 starts behind the dish for HPU. At the plate, Grintz hit for a .287 average as he slugged nine home runs, seven doubles, and drove in 24 runs. Behind the plate, Grintz threw 12 runners out on 26 attempts. A perfect 1.000 fielding percentage as he went error free all season, tallying 28 assists and two double plays.
Peyton Carr, R-Jr. Designated Hitter/First Base: First Team All-Conference
Carr joined the lineup just about over halfway through the season as he started all 21 games at the DH spot. In his short time in the Panther lineup, he earned a Big South Player of the Week honor as he slugged six home runs in one week of games. In total, Carr hit 13 home runs in 78 at-bats as he held a .436 batting average and a 1.013 slugging percentage. He drove in 28 runs on 34 hits, and six doubles.
Gus Hughes, Sr. Starting Pitcher: First Team All-Conference
Hughes started 14 games for HPU as he held a 6-4 record with a 3.93 ERA. A Starting Pitcher of the Week honoree logged 97 strikeouts in 89.1 innings pitched this season. 13 of his 14 starts, Hughes tallied six or more strikeouts as he struck out 10 batters in his last outing against Gardner-Webb. Opponents were held to a .199 batting average against Hughes.
Matt Little, Gr. Starting Pitcher: Honorable Mention All-Conference
Little appeared in 17 games, making 12 starts. The Sunday starter earned himself one Starting Pitcher of the Week honor after he shut down Rutgers to earn High Point the series win over a BIG 10 opponent. With a 6-2 record, Little recorded a 3.86 ERA in 74.2 innings pitched. He tallied a season high eight strikeouts three times this season as he also threw two complete games.
