SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS —
Incoming High Point University women's golfer Savannah Cherry finished USGA Four-Ball competition in the semifinals Wednesday afternoon at the Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.

"I'm so proud of how Savannah performed at this event; she's already setting records before she's even moved into her dorm!" HPU Women's Golf Head Coach Lyndsey Hunnell said. "This is a super fun event she got to compete in, but it's also great experience for her getting to be in a competitive match play environment. Can't wait to see how the rest of the summer season goes for her and for her to be on campus with us soon."

The High Point freshman participated in the USGA Four-Ball competition with her friend Lauren Slatton this week. Cherry and Slatton finished the two rounds of stroke play in T17 with a score of 7-under 135 to advance to the round of 32, where the pair was matched up against Natalie Yen and Asia Young.

Cherry and Slatton had a hard-fought battle against Yen and Young as the pairs ended the regulation 18-hole match play tied up. Cherry and Slatton put the finishing touches on the round during the extra 19th hole, beating Yen and Young 1-up.

The duo saw another difficult round in the round of 16, paired up against Caroline and Catie Craig. The Craigs took the advantage in the front nine, but Cherry and Slatton tied it up at the 18th hole, before winning the 19th to advance to the quarterfinals. After back-to-back heroic performances, Cherry and Slatton were interviewed and quoted in the USGA release.

Cherry and Slatton played 20 holes in the quarterfinals, eventually beating their opponents 1-up to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals, Cherry and Slatton were paired against Sarah Lim and Asterisk Talley. Lim and Talley played extremely well, beating Cherry and Slatton 3-and-2. Despite not reaching the finals, Cherry became the first Panther to make it to the semifinals of the USGA Amateur Four-Ball.
