Lynchburg, Va. – On Wednesday, the High Point men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Liberty University to compete at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier in mid-week action.
Two school records were broken on Wednesday evening. In the men's high jump, two athletes from the men's team set a new program record of 2.12 meters.
Shaun Thomas took first place while
Andrew Taylor placed second.
The men's 4x100m relay team also set a new program record which consisted of
Isaac McGinnis,
A'lajuwan Robinson,
Tyneilus Morrow and
Deron Dudley. The four combined for a 40.17 time.
Dudley and Robinson also competed in other running events as Dudley placed second in the men's 100m after clocking a 10.53 while Robinson placed second in the men's 200m with a 20.83 time.
In the men's 400m race,
Reilly Mazzetti crossed the finish line in second place after running a 50.38 second lap.
High Point had the top finishes in the men's 800m and 1500m events.
Graham Ferguson took first in the 800m with a 1:51.67 time while
Jason Thomson placed second in the 1500m with a 3:43.22 time.
Brianna Malone also took first place in the women's 1500m, crossing the line with a 4:28.19 time.
In the hurdle events,
Lindsay Cooper ran a 13.90 to earn a spot in third place in the women's 100m hurdles.
Antonio Votour represented the men in the 110m hurdles and placed fifth with a 15.11 time.
In the throwing events,
Nick Morse took home the first-place medal in the men's shot put, throwing 15.07m.
Chris Van Niekerk threw 52.52m in the men's discus and placed second overall.
Timon Edelen placed in the top five in three throwing events including the shot put (14.59m), discus (47.84m), and the hammer (47.36m). For the women,
Letizia Jessica Marsico and
Kelly Chaballa placed fifth and sixth in the women's javelin after throwing 35.35m and 33.63m respectively.
In the pole vault,
Reid Holloway had the best finish for the men's team, clearing 5.02m for second place behind Coach
Scott Houston who competed with the Vaulthouse clearing 5.17m.
Auriane Viola had the best finish for the women's team and cleared 1.68m for fourth place.
