PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The High Point University men's lacrosse team opened the Atlantic 10 regular season at Saint Joseph's University in Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers fell to the Hawks, 15-7.

Saint Joseph's jumped out to an early 3-0 lead to start the game. HPU answered with two goals of their own to make it a one goal game. 
Tommy Meehan netted the first while 
Nick Rizzo netted the second.
 
 
The Hawks scored two goals in the last minute of the first quarter to increase their goal total to five. 
Matt Lutzel caught a pass from Meehan and found the back of the net with 15 seconds left in the first to make it 5-3 before entering the second quarter.
 
 
Saint Joseph's went on a 5-0 run in the second quarter. Lutzel took advantage of a man-up opportunity and scored off a pass from 
Jack VanOverbeke to make it 10-4. Before the end of the first half, VanOverbeke dished out another pass for an HPU goal by 
Collin Cooke to make it 11-5 at the half.
 
 
In the last 30 minutes of action HPU closed the gap to five at 12-7 with a nasty goal from 
Ian Cann that left his defender on the ground at the 6:41 mark in the third quarter.
 
 
Following Cann's goal, HPU went cold on the attack and were unable to net another goal. Saint Joseph's scored three more goals in the fourth to end the game 15-7.

High Point has a week preparation before hosting St. Bonaventure for Senior Night at 7:00 p.m. on April 5 inside Vert Stadium.
