Head Coach Joey Hammond: "Pretty solid win today. It's fun to win the series on a Saturday. Our guys are playing well right now. They were having fun playing, staying loose, and being aggressive like we talked about. That's going to be our brand and our guys have really bought into it and it's been fantastic."
Brett Wozniak pitched a stellar 7.2 innings, allowing just three runs, on seven hits, striking out six batters. Wozniak earned the win and improved his record to 3-1.
Tyler Romanias relieved Wozniak in the eighth and was able to record the final 4 outs needed to secure the Panther victory.
Right from the jump, High Point attacked early and put a crooked number on the board in the first inning.
Adam Stuart with two strikes grounded one up the middle to score
Konni Durschlag, and advance
Cael Chatham to third. The next batter,
Charlie Klingler kept it going as he would poke one through the right side to send Chatham home from third. HPU took an early 2-0 lead.
Radford tallied their first run in the second as they brought it back to a 2-1 ball game.
HPU pulled ahead even more as
Miggy Echazarreta hit his second long ball of the year over the left field wall for a three-run blast.
The Panthers then went on to put three more runs on the board in the fourth to make it a 8-1 ball game. Klingler,
Brayden Simpson, and
Dawson Harman all drew walks to bring home the three runs. In the fifth, Stuart flew out to right field, but Durschlag was there standing on third to tag up and score the ninth run of the game.
High Point continued to pour on the runs as they had another massive inning in the seventh as five runs crossed the plate. It all started with an
Eric Grintz double to left field scoring Durschlag. Then, Klingler singled up the middle scoring Grintz and advancing Stuart to third. Echazarreta drew a walk on a full count scoring the third run. Harman singled to left field which brought home two more runners to make it a 14-1 ball game heading to the eighth.
Radford tagged three more runs in the final two innings but was not nearly enough to catch the Panthers.
High Point has won its sixth game in a row and has clinched the series victory over the Highlanders heading into the final game of this series.
