Site: Wilson Field
Score: High Point 7, Davidson 3
Records: High Point (11-14, 1-2), Davidson (11-13, 0-0)
Head Coach Joey Hammond: "Very pleased with our full team today. We handled the lightning delay, stayed engaged and ready to play, and came away with a good road victory. BJ Rivera was fantastic (as was all our pitchers tonight). He put up 5 zeros and allowed our offense some time to catch some rhythm. We were fantastic on the bases all night and cashed in with 2 out RBI's multiple times. Those are momentum plays and our guys fed on that all night. It is the brand of baseball that we want to play and it's great to see us get more consistent with that approach."
Bryan Rivera earned his second win on the season as he started tonight's game for the Panthers. Rivera pitched a career high five innings, allowing no runs, on two hits, striking out two batters.
HPU got on the board first in the fourth inning as both pitchers were doing their jobs and getting outs in the first three innings.
Dawson Harman plated two runners as he singled to second base in the fourth.
Justin Ruiz then singled through the right-side scoring
Miggy Echazarreta. HPU jumped to a 3-0 lead.
Cael Chatham hit his sixth home run of the season in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 4-0.
Adam Grintz relieved Rivera in sixth as Grintz went ahead and gave HPU two innings, allowing one run, on two hits, striking out two batters.
The Wildcats struck in the sixth as they scored a runner on a wild pitch.
Charlie Klingler in the seventh flew one out to right field allowing
Konni Durschlag to tag from third to score another HPU run.
Eric Grintz came in as a pinch hitter in the eighth and he beat out a grounder to shortstop as
Brett Ahalt came home from third.
Howell Polk pitched the eighth inning for High Point as he escaped the inning not allowing any hits or runs.
In the ninth,
Frank Kelly added an insurance run for High Point off a Davidson wild pitch.
Chatham came in to relieve
Christian Baker in the ninth as Davidson tallied two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Chatham shut them down as he was able to record the final three outs of the ballgame to secure the Panthers a road win against the Wildcats.
