Records: High Point (12-10, 7-2), Presbyterian (12-12, 3-6)
Â
Head Coach Chelsea Banbury: "I mean obviously anytime you can get a road win in conference you should be happy. Fortunately we made enough plays down the stretch to get the win… Aside from the third quarter, I thought we defended them pretty well… Overall I am happy with getting the win and we will get back home and get ready for the next one."
Â
Presbyterian kicked off the game with two buckets before
Cydney Johnson put HPU on the board with a three-pointer from the wing.
Â
The Panthers struggled to shoot the ball in the first quarter as the team shot 29.4 percent from the court overall and 16.7 percent from the three-point line.
Â
Despite HPU closing out the first quarter with
Callie Scheier finding a cutting
Shakira Baskerville for the basket, Presbyterian led at the end of the first 10 minutes, 17-13.
Â
HPU got off to a 7-0 scoring run to start the second quarter as the Panthers grabbed a 20-17 lead with 5:45 remaining until the half break.
Â
Defensively, HPU forced 12 first-half turnovers and seven second-quarter points which helped the Panthers take a 25-24 halftime lead.
Â
Terrell's quick hands allowed her to grab her fifth steal of the game on the opening possession of the second half.
Â
Terrell was outstanding not just on the defensive end, but also on the offensive end of the court as she recorded six third-quarter points including five straight.
Â
Presbyterian scored a basket to end the quarter to give Presbyterian the lead heading into the fourth, 44-43.
Â
Terrell continued her hot scoring hand in the fourth quarter as she drained a three-pointer to give HPU the 47-44 lead.
Â
Anna Hager recorded an easy layup to give HPU its largest lead of the game, 51-44.
Â
Lauren Bevis knocked down her first triple of the game to give her 11 points on the game and a 56-50 lead for HPU.
Â
HPU was perfect from the free-throw line down the stretch to help the Panthers pull away with a hard-fought win, 64-59.
Â
The Panthers extend their winning streak to three games, and move to 7-2 in Big South conference play.
Â
Terrell led the way for the Panthers with 14 points on 5-8 shooting from the court overall to go along with six steals and four rebounds.
Â
"Nakyah is huge for us on defense. I definitely trust her because she understands how I want to guard things, and what she needs to do, so she gets a lot of her minutes from that," said Banbury, "I was happy to see her get some things going and have a better offensive game. I think that will be good for her confidence moving forward."
Â
The Big South's leading scorer, Bevis, added 13 points and five rebounds.
Â
Up Next: High Point will battle it out against UNC Asheville on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Qubein Center.
