HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Big South Conference announced the weekly awards for the week of Sept. 30 through Oct. 7 as High Point University's
Alfred Baafi was tabbed with Offensive Player of the Week and
Jefferson Amaya earned Defensive Player of the Week.
The Panthers played two games this past week winning both. On Tuesday, Oct. 1, HPU upset No. 17 Elon, 1-0, at Rudd Field to end the Phoenix's eight game unbeaten streak at home. HPU earned another victory on the road against Big South foe USC Upstate with a, 4-1, win on Saturday Oct. 5.
Baafi and Amaya were in the starting lineup in both games last week as they played a pivotal role in each of the wins.
Baafi tallied two goals as he scored his second game winner of the season at Elon and then added a late insurance goal against USC Upstate. He now has three goals during this years slate and is leading the team in shots.
Amaya who has started the last three of the four halves playing centre-back for the Panthers. He netted his second goal of the season as he was successful on the penalty kick after
Celestin Blondel was fouled in the box. Amaya has been lockdown on defense helping contribute to the teams one goal allowed and only three shots on goal all coming against USC Upstate.
The Panthers return to the pitch at Vert Stadium for senior day on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
