CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Ahead of Big South Conference play beginning this weekend, the league announced the Big South Men's Soccer Midseason Watch List, which was compiled by team head coaches. This is the first season the conference has announced this list.
Prosper Adagani and
Daniel Lugo join
Brendan Krueger,
Jefferson Amaya,
Lukas Kamrath and
Josh Caron, who were named Big South Preseason Returners to Watch, as six Panthers named to the Big South Midseason Watch List. This group has led High Point to an unbeaten record (4-0-2) through six games while
tying its highest United Soccer Coaches national ranking at No. 11 and receiving its highest region ranking at No. 1.
The newcomers Adagani and Lugo have a team-tying best four goals each. Adagani, a freshman, has a game-winning goal at ETSU and has made an impact off the bench in six appearances. The Ghanaian secured his first collegiate goal with the game winner and registered his first collegiate brace against Central Arkansas.
Lugo, who transferred from North Carolina in the spring, has started every game and scored in four different matches alike Adagani. Lugo netted his first-career brace in a win over #14/25 Georgetown in the season opener and had yet another game-winning score versus Central Arkansas.
The four returners — Krueger, Amaya, Kamrath and Caron — have started and played in all six games so far. Krueger, a senior, has recorded in two assists in 410 minutes, recording the game-winning assist to Adagani. The redshirt junior Caron has recorded two shutouts in goal through five complete games while recording 23 saves on 58 shots faced. He holds a 0.83 goal against average and has allowed only five goals through six contests.
Amaya, a senior captain, scored the game-winning goal at VCU on a penalty kick and recorded a double-assist game against No. 10 Marshall. The midfielder, who has logged 470 minutes, two dishes against The Herd helped notch both goals scored as one was a corner kick early and the other was a free kick to register the game-tying goal with three minutes remaining.
The redshirt sophomore Kamrath was on the receiving end of the corner kick from Amaya, heading in his first goal of the year to help stalemate with Marshall. The defender has been lockdown, playing every minute of his six starts as his header save against Marshall also led to the 2-2 decision and made it onto the SportsCenter Top 10 plays.
Up Next: The Panthers host Presbyterian to begin Big South play on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. It will be free admission for all.
