Charlotte, N.C. – The High Point University Panthers swept the Big South weekly awards for the third time this season after another 2-0 week on the road in conference play.
Kezza Giffa picked up his third Player of the Week honor while
Titas Sargiunas secured his first Freshman of the Week honor.
High Point has now totaled six Player of the Week awards and eight Freshman of the Week awards as a team since the start of the season.
Having another break-out week in the starting position, Giffa led the team averaging 30.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists between the two games. Overall, he shot 84.6% from the line (22-26), 47.2% from the field (17-36), and 28.6% from deep (4-14). In the game at Winthrop the junior guard went off, dropping 37 points, becoming the seventh player in program history to ever record 37+ points in a single game. Helping the team come back from a 17-point deficit in the second half, Giffa knocked down the game winning lay-up in the last second of the game.
At USC Upstate, Giffa scored 23 points in the Panthers 78-67 victory. He contributed five rebounds and an assist in his 38 minutes of play while leading the team from the line going 9-for-10.
Sargiunas contributed meaningful minutes in both game last week. He averaged 8.0 points per game after tying his season-high 10 against Winthrop. He went a perfect 4-for-4 for the second time this season against the Eagles while adding two rebounds. At USC Upstate Sargiunas picked up a rebound and an assist in the Panthers victory.
High Point hosts Longwood on ESPNU Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
