Women's Golf Sweeps Big South Weekly Awards

HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University's Julia McLaughlin and Anna Howerton have swept the Big South Conference Women's Golfer of the Week awards, the conference announced Thursday afternoon. McLaughlin was named the Big South Women's Golfer of the Week, while Howerton was the recipient of the Women's Freshman of the Week.

McLaughlin led the Panthers at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, finishing tied for sixth place. She shot a pair of 71s in the first two rounds and 11 birdies over the course of the tournament, which led to an even 216 score. The graduate student played her first tournament in Purple & White at the Nittany Lion Invitational the week prior, where she competed against golfers from Power Five schools to finish T12. McLaughlin shot a 4-over 76 in the first round before shooting three birdies in the next round and four birdies in the third, carding her a 74 and 73, respectively.

Howerton secured the third-best finish for High Point at the Red Sky Classic, placing T40. She shot a 76,75, and 77 to secure a score of 6-over 228. Howerton also competed at the Nittany Lion Invitational, where she carded a 5-over 77 to land in 17th place.
