Site: Thompson Field
Score: High Point 2, Virginia Tech 3
Records: High Point (4-2-2) (1-0-0), Virginia Tech (3-2-3) (2-0-1)
Head Coach Zach Haines: "I thought we were the better team in the first half, and they were the better team in the second half. We let two moments get away from us in the second half and they punished us. We fought back to get it to 3-2 and then had a few chances to get the draw. Overall, we are encouraged by many aspects of our performance but have to tighten up defensively. It was a challenging stretch of 6 games in 18 days against some good teams. We definitely have progressed and are ready for the second half of the season and conference play."
The Hokies wasted no time and got on the board real early in the sixth minute. Noe Uwimana scored for Virginia Tech.
The Panthers held their own after the Hokies early goal. In the 27th minute,
Anthony Ramirez took a shot which was initially blocked by the defender. Ramirez gathered his own rebound and sent it to the bottom left of the net to even the game at one. This was the second goal in two games for Ramirez.
At the end of the first half, the score was even at one.
Declan Quill knocked one in for the Hokies giving them the lead in the 60th minute.
10 minutes later, Conor Pugh found the back of the net for Virginia Tech.
The Panthers found some life late in the 73rd minute.
Alex Abril sent one flying to the middle of the box off a throw in.
Kaya Ignacio took control of the ball and booted it to the bottom left of the net leaving the keeper stunned. This brought the game within one.
