Panthers Take Home Another Conference Win

RADFORD, VA – The High Point University men's soccer team took down Radford 2-1 on Monday night. The Panthers are now 2-0 in conference play.

Site: Cupp Memorial Field
Score: High Point 2, Radford 1
Records: High Point (5-2-2) (2-0-0), Radford (0-7-2) (0-1-0)

It was back and forth play for the first 20 minutes of the first half. All it took was Cooper Lindfelt sending the ball from midfield to the left corner to find Noah Holmes. Holmes took control of the ball beating a defender and a sliding goalie, sending the ball to the back of an open net. This was the goal Holmes was waiting for as he notched his first of the season to give HPU a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. That took the match to the end of the first half.

Justin Stewart made his first save of the game which came at the start of the second half on a shot to the bottom left of the net.

In the 56th minute, HPU took a 2-0 command over Radford. Alex Abril launched a throw in from the right side that deflected off a defender, finding Kaya Ignacio as he fired it to the top left of the net.

Just a few minutes later, Radford answered off a corner kick. Rad Kryazhev got the Highlanders within one in the later part of the 64th minute.

With the clock winding down, the Panthers had a few more chances to extend their lead but nothing found the net. Radford committed a few fouls resulting in a yellow and a red card being handed out. HPU was able to hold off the Highlanders in the final minutes to secure the win.

HPU outshot Radford 13-5.

Up Next: The Panthers continue conference play on the road with a matchup at Longwood University on Saturday, October 7 at 6 p.m.
