RADFORD, VA. – In a game of back-and-forth action, the High Point University baseball team secured their second sweep of the season with the 8-6 win over Radford.
Cael Chatham had himself a day, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three doubles.

After a quick three outs for the Panthers at the plate, Radford took the lead early with a two RBI home run by the Highlanders second batter. An error on a throw down attempt moved a Radford baserunner from first to third which was followed by a single, scoring the run to take a 3-0 lead in the first.
On the mound,
Sam Garcia got out of the first inning with a strikeout after loading the bases. The three-run lead by Radford was the first time the Highlanders had taken the edge over the Panthers in the series.
High Point answered back in the top of the second, taking advantage of the Highlanders pitching. Two back-to-back walks and a single from
Blake Sutton loaded the bases.
Trenton Pallas took one for the team with a hit by pitch to walk in HPU's first run and make it 3-1.
Earning their second run, Chatham buried a hit into right center field to score
Javon Fields and make it a one run game. High Point took their first lead of the game with a two-run homer from
Adam Stuart.
After extending their lead to two, the Highlanders fought back to take a 6-5 lead over the Panthers in the bottom of the fourth. Not staying down long, High Point worked to tie the game up six all. Three straight hits converted to the tied game after five innings.
After getting on base with a single to the left field side, Fields advanced to second on a pass ball. Hitting his third double of the game, Chatham knocked in his second RBI to make it 7-6, HPU.
Adding some padding to the lead,
Brett Ahalt ripped one up the middle to round
Cole Singsank home.
Reid Viar came in for
Howell Polk in the top of the sixth and got the win. Retiring 12 straight batters he allowed no hits in the final four innings.
Up Next: The Panthers return home on Tuesday for an evening matchup with crosstown rival Elon. The first pitch is set for 6:00 pm.
