Coach Boswell: "I am so proud of the fight we showed throughout the game tonight. We are down some right now and playing with some younger players. At halftime, we talked about having more of an attacking mindset and I definitely think that was the difference in the second half. Pia stepped up tonight and she was huge — I am super proud of her."
Â
The first quarter was very back-and-forth, with both teams immediately responding to each score. Pia Cavallaro opened up the Panther scoring early with the first goal of the contest and her fifth of the year.
Loescher started her big night with ten minutes left in the first quarter, scoring back-to-back goals. After a quick few goals from the Paladins, Rosselli netted her sixth of the season.
At the end of the first, Furman held the lead 7-4. Esprit Cha put one in the back of the net to make it 7-5, but the rest of the second quarter remained scoreless for High Point, as Furman scored five consecutive goals.Â
Â
"Esprit has been working so hard at getting to the cage for us and she made some big plays both scoring and assisting," Boswell said. "She is a huge threat".Â
Coming out of half, there was a fire sparked within the Panthers, as they went on a five-goal run of their own off goals from Cha, Loescher, Brockamp, and Cavallaro.Â
Â
There was a four-goal deficit heading into the last 15 minutes of play.Â
Cavallaro scored her third of the night a few minutes in the fourth quarter. Furman tallied two more to respond to the effort.
Â
Freshman Shannon Smith put in her fourth career goal followed by goals from Loescher, Brockamp, and Rosselli. Loescher's goal cut the lead to one with just 24 seconds left in the contest. A draw-control by Furman snuck the Paladins to the edge over the Panthers.Â
Â
It was yet another game with Loescher leading the scoring list off of five points. Esprit Cha secured her first hat-trick of the season and an assist. Cavallaro had a hat trick of her own and Brockamp and Rosselli each tallied two goals. Caitlyn Baehr had a season-high nine draw controls, picked up two ground balls, and caused two turnovers.Â
