Looking to bounce back from the night before, the Panthers got off to a good start in the opening inning.
Patrick Matthews earned a spot on first with a single up the middle. A double to left center field from
Javon Fields moved Matthews to scoring position on third.
Cael Chatham landed an RBI off a sacrifice hit to right field, putting the Panthers up 1-0 in the first half inning.
The Lancers answered in the bottom half of the second scoring nine runs off eight hits. Longwood accumulated six singles, a double and triple to contribute to the nine runs.
Getting on from a shot back at the pitcher,
Jack Pokorak moved to second on a balk by the Lancers pitcher. Matthews' second hit of the day was enough to round Pokorak home and add a run for the Panthers in the top of the fifth.
Like the second inning, the Lancers trekked on a six-run advancement in the bottom of the fifth. A combination of three hits and an error made by the Panthers infield led to the six runs.
High Point struggled to get runners on the bases with two hits in the sixth and one in the eighth it was not enough to close the 14-run gap. Overall, HPU left 10 runners on the bases following the nine innings.
