High Point took advantage in the box early, loading the bases after a single from leadoff spot
Brett Ahalt, a double from
Patrick Matthews through the left field gap and a walk for
Cael Chatham. A walk by the Lancers pitching staff led to the first run while a sacrifice fly out led to a tag up on third for the second run.
The Panthers loaded the bases again in the top of the second with no outs. Matthews' hit to the third baseman recorded the first out but allowed Sutton to score. Sliding in safe at home,
Brayden Simpson scored HPU's fourth run on a wild pitch by the Lancers.
Creating a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the second, the Panthers defense worked to only allow two runs from the Lancers, gaining the third out with a strikeout from
Everett Vaughan on the mound.
A triple for Longwood in the bottom of the third closed the game to one run at 4-3.
With the game tied up 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth, the Lancers took their first lead of the game with a two-run homer over left field.
High Point made it a one run game in the top of the sixth after capitalizing on an error by Longwood's catcher in a throw down attempt to third,
Miggy Echazarreta stole home.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Lancers broke loose at the plate, scoring four straight runs off three hits. Longwood continued their hits in the eighth, adding two more to extend the lead to 13-5.
High Point tacked on two hits through the final two innings but was not able to tack on any more runs before the final out of the game.
