Head Coach Lyndsey Boswell: "We were really excited to be back home tonight at Vert Stadium. I really loved the way we started the game. We lacked execution in our shooting and that was the difference in the game. I was excited to get some contributions from our players off the bench and our draw unit was strong. There was not a lack of effort tonight — just a lack of execution."
Kay Rosselli tallied the first point of the night for the Panthers in response to a pair of Elon goals.
Grace Bruce followed with a goal of her own, knotting the score at two at the end of the first quarter.
The Phoenix struck first in the second period with back-to-back goals, extending their lead back to two. With just under four minutes before the break,
Mandy Brockamp netted a goal in her third straight game to make it 4-3.
Despite a hard defensive effort from the Purple and White, Elon went into the half up two goals.
After Anna Hackett netted another for Phoenix at the start of the third, the Panthers kept their foot on the gas, scoring three straight goals to tie it. Brockamp's second goal of the contest was a nifty over-the-shoulder scoop shot followed by a jaw-dropping behind-the-back laser from
Pia Cavallaro. Sophomore attacker
Jordan Miles tied the score at six, making it her fifth game of the year in the scoring column.
Emma Genovese scored her first of the night to take the Panthers' first lead of the game, 7-6, but then Elon quickly responded with a goal that ended the period all tied up again.
Loescher scored the first goal in the fourth, putting one in the back of the net after contributing assists on three of the eight goals. But, just as HPU went up again, Elon responded just as quickly, making the score 8-8 with six minutes to play.
