The High Point University men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete at the 2023 Big South Indoor Championships this weekend at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. Teams participating include Campbell, Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb, Longwood, Radford, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate, and Winthrop.

MEET INFORMATION
The 2023 Big South Conference Men's and Women's Track and Field Indoor Championships will be held at Rector Field House on February 24-25th, in Blacksburg, Va. All 8 Big South members will compete for the conference title starting with combined events on Friday at 9:15 am.Â
Admission is free but all spectators must comply with any facility masking requirements and practice safe social distancing. Spectators are NOT allowed to enter competition areas and must avoid going into team spaces.
Trio of Panthers Earn Athlete of the Week Honors
Rachel Vesper and
Reid Holloway received weekly awards for the second-straight week while
Chris Van Niekerk earned his first field athlete of the week nod from the conference office, announced Wednesday afternoon. Vesper posted a lifetime-best 4.36m mark in the women's pole vault, a jump that ranks No. 7 in NCAA Division I, at the Virginia Tech Challenge over the weekend. HollowayÂ

HPU Conference Preseason Polls
Last season the Panthers finished as runner-up at the 2022 Big South Indoor Championship held in Winston Salem, Nc. This season they return looking to take home the titles, according to the preseason polls High Point women's team was ranked #1 in the conference receiving all eight first-place votes. The men's team was ranked #2 by one vote both teams will be battling against Campbell University for the #1 spot.
High Point Women 28th in Nation, Latest USTFCCCA Poll
As of week five, the Panther women were tabbed 28th in the USTFCCCA poll just missing top-25 by 4.23 points. Last week, HPU was 37th after competing at Darius Dixon Memorial meet on February 4th. This big push from 37th to 28th was due to the performances of the women's pole vault squad as they now move up to being ranked as the third-best group in the country for the event.

Last Time OutÂ
The Panthers competed at Virginia Tech and JDL DMR invite to wrap up the last meet of indoor before championships. They had several great performances to finish out the meet.
Chris Van Niekerk finished as the runner-up in the shot put with a season-best mark of 17.87m. In the unseeded pole vault,
Reid Holloway won the event, clearing 4.90m for a new personal record followed by
Gabe Imery with a mark of 4.80m.

On the women's side,
Letizia Marsico broke her own school record in the shot put with a new personal best of 14.99m. While
Rachel Vesper finished third in the pole vault with a personal best mark of 4.36m, which currently ranks her seventh in the nation. At JDL,
Madeline Quinn finished ninth in the women's mile with a personal best of 5:16.53.
