Women's Golf Receives Top 100 Ranking

HIGH POINT, N.C. — For the first time in a decade, the High Point University women's golf team is back in the top 100 rankings as Spikemark ranked the Panthers 99 of 276 Division I women's golf teams. The rankings were released on Wednesday afternoon.

Last time High Point made it into the top 100 rankings was during the 2013-14 season when Golfstat ranked the Panthers 96th. HPU finds itself back in the rankings following a historic fall season, where the Panthers won a tournament while finishing runner-up once and claiming two top-four finishes in five tournaments. High Point secured the first-place trophy at the UNCG Collegiate behind a record-breaking performance as the team shot a school record 36-hole low before shattering the 54-hole record. Freshman Anna Howerton lead the team at UNCG, breaking three records for herself and securing her collegiate low-round to take the title.

The Panthers followed up their record-breaking performance at UNCG with a runner-up finish at Charlotte led by sophomore Ella Perna, who took home the individual runner-up trophy. HPU opened the season with a third-place finish at the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational before landing a sixth-place finish at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic. High Point ended its fall slate with a fourth-place finish at the Mercer Invitational led by Perna who shot her collegiate low-round of 68.

Along with the team rankings, Spikemark ranked players, as well, with Howerton receiving the highest ranking at 228, while Perna had the team's second-highest ranking at 374.

The Panthers open the spring season at the Battle of the Triad, which will be match play tournament at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro on Jan. 27-28.
