HPU has won the last eight matchups with the Spartans, but the last four matchups were each decided by a single goal. The last time the Panthers dropped a match to UNCG was on October 11, 2008, in a 2-0 match at UNCG Soccer Stadium. HPU has not played UNCG since the 2019 season.

About the Spartans
UNCG is 3-0 on the 2022 season, picking up wins over UNC Asheville, UNC Wilmington, and Coastal Carolina. The Spartans are outscoring opponents 12-2. Steven Hernandez leads a balanced attack with three goals and an assist while eight other Spartans have scored goals. J.C. Ngando has passed out two assists with a goal as well. Keeper Niclas Wild has started all three games in goal, recording six saves against 24 shots faced and posting one shutout. Head coach Chris Rich is in his fourth season with the Spartans.

th. Pineda scored the game-winning goal over Davidson and the game-tying goal at Georgetown while Trent tallied six saves on the week.

Trent Named Preseason Keeper of the Year
Holden Trent was voted the Big South's Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year after finishing last season with the league's best save percentage (.736). Trent allowed just 19 goals while recording 53 saves.

HPU was picked second in the Big South Preseason Coaches' poll behind 2021 tournament champion, Campbell. The Panthers received one first place vote in the poll behind the Camels' eight.
