ELON, N.C. – The High Point University men's soccer team drew with Elon, 0-0, on Wednesday night.
Holden Trent made four saves in goal while the Panthers recorded nine shots with two on goal.
HPU had an early chance as
Holland Rula missed high off a set piece after a Phoenix foul.
In the 14
th minute,
Sebastian Chalbaud, fired a shot from deep, but it was saved by Elon's keeper and set the Panthers up with a corner kick.
Davis Biggerstaff tallied High Point's only other shot on goal in the 18
th minute.
Trent made his first save of the night on a high shot in the 24
th minute after Panther defenders blocked two shots from the Phoenix.
With four minutes to play in the half, HPU had another chance from a free kick, but
Finn McRobb's header was over the crossbar and the half ended with both teams still scoreless.
Trent made his second save early in the second half off an Elon free kick while he recorded his third in the 73
rd minute, blocking the shot back into play before the ball was knocked out of the endline for a Phoenix corner kick.
HPU kept threatening late in the game as
Jefferson Amaya rocketed a shot from deep at the 86
th minute mark that was just wide, but could not score to take the lead in the last several minutes.
