ROCK HILL, S.C. – The High Point University men's soccer team picked up a 4-1 win over Winthrop on Saturday night for its first Big South win of the season.
Noah Holmes recorded his first brace at HPU with the game-tying and game-winning goals, both within a two-minute span.

High Point took an early deficit as a foul in the penalty area resulted in a penalty kick goal for the Eagles in the third minute.
HPU had several opportunities throughout the first half with five corner kicks and out-shooting Winthrop 9-4, but ultimately could not connect to tie the match.
The Panthers got on the board as

Two minutes later, Holmes netted the game-winning goal to put HPU up 2-1 with just over 30 minutes to play.
High Point continued its second half offensive dominance with another goal in the 73
rd minute, as

Aidan Abril with a chip shot down field.
HPU's final goal of the match came in the 85
th minute when
Brendan Krueger led
Ashton Perkins downfield for a one-on-one matchup with the Eagles' keeper.
High Point outshot Winthrop 15-8 on the night while
Holden Trent made four saves in goal for the Panthers.
