The High Point University men's soccer team opens its Big South slate with a home match against Gardner-Webb on Friday night. The Panthers are 2-2-1 on the season coming off a win at Coastal Carolina last weekend.

High Point came out on top of a 2-1 thriller at Coastal Carolina on Sunday night. Kaya Ignacio netted a penalty kick in the 81^st minute before Jefferson Amaya found Noah Holmes for a header off a free kick in the 83^rd minute.

High Point vs. Gardner-Webb
HPU is 14-1-4 all-time against the Runnin' Bulldogs with the only loss coming back in October of the 2011 season. The Panthers are on a seven-game win streak against Gardner-Webb.  
 
About the Runnin' Bulldogs
Gardner-Webb is 3-2 on the year with wins over Wofford, Queens, and VMI. Pablo Brimeux leads the Runnin' Bulldogs with three goals and an assist this season. Javier Ramirez and Lorenzo Bartoloni have split time at keeper. Ramirez has made 17 saves in goal for a .773 save percentage.

Pineda, Trent Earn First Weekly Awards
Forward Tony Pineda and goalkeeper Holden Trent were named the Big South's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, on August 29^th. Pineda scored the game-winning goal over Davidson and the game-tying goal at Georgetown while Trent tallied six saves on the week.
 
Pineda Placed on TDS Team of the Week
Top Drawer Soccer released its Team of the Week following its first week of regular season play. High Point senior forward Tony Pineda was among the 11 players on the team after scoring two goals in the opening week of play.
 
Trent Named Preseason Keeper of the Year
Holden Trent was voted the Big South's Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year after finishing last season with the league's best save percentage (.736). Trent allowed just 19 goals while recording 53 saves.
 
Panthers Tabbed Second in Preseason Poll
HPU was picked second in the Big South Preseason Coaches' poll behind 2021 tournament champion, Campbell. The Panthers received one first place vote in the poll behind the Camels' eight.
