High Point volleyball picked up two wins at day two of the VCU Invitational and
Sydney Palazzolo was named to the All-Tournament Team.
GAME 1
RICHMOND, Va. – The High Point University volleyball team came away with a 3-1 win over Elon on Saturday as it continued play at the VCU Invitational.
Sydney Palazzolo finished with a match-high 17 kills while
Jenny Wessling had 24 digs.
Maria Miggins and
Ally Van Eekeren combined for 43 assists.

High Point started to pull away in the first set behind kills from
Gabrielle Idlebird and
Sydney Palazzolo, taking an 8-5 lead.
The Panthers closed the first set on a 13-2 run to comfortably take the 25-10 win. HPU hit .324 in the first set with 12 kills from six different players.
HPU continued to roll in the second set behind five kills from Palazzolo and four from
Dylan Maberry.
Elon used an 11-2 run early in set three to take the lead and forced High Point substitutions to in an attempt to bring back momentum to the Panther sideline.
Beginning the fourth set trailing 5-3, HPU used 9-2 run with four and two kills from Palazzolo and Idlebird, respectively, and a service ace from Wessling.
The Panthers finished off the Phoenix with two kills from
Maggie Salley and Maberry to win the set 25-16 and the match 3-1.

GAME 2
RICHMOND, Va. – The High Point University volleyball squad finished the weekend 3-0 at the VCU Invitational after defeating Liberty, 3-1, in the weekend finale.
Sydney Palazzolo led HPU with 21 kills while
Dylan Maberry chipped in 18.
Maria Miggins and
Ally Van Eekeren combined for 48 assists while four Panthers had double-digit digs.

The Panthers got out to an early 9-7 lead from a
Dylan Maberry service ace, but Liberty rallied back to take back the lead at 13-12.
Another service ace from
Ally Van Eekeren brought the Panthers back within 16-15 before a Maberry kill tied the match at 16. Two
Sydney Palazzolo kills and another from Maberry pulled HPU within 23-22, but the two teams traded points the rest of the way to give the Flames the opening set.
Two quick kills from
Gabrielle Idlebird and Palazzolo put the Panthers up 3-0 in the second set.
A kill and an ace from Maberry gave HPU its largest lead of the set at 16-13, forcing a Liberty timeout.
The Flames tied it at 16, but
Maria Miggins' kill gave the Panthers the edge once again. HPU led 22-18 in the frame, just enough to carry the Panthers to the 26-24 win to tie the match.
The third set was the closest of the four, as neither side led by more than two points the entirety of the frame. The Panthers opened up the set with a dominant stuff from Idlebird and Palazzolo before Palazzolo and Maberry combined for four kills to take a 7-6 lead.
Maberry had the hot hand in the set, as she recorded eight kills with a service ace.
After three sets of point trading, High Point took command in the fourth, opening up the set 6-1 and forcing a Liberty timeout.
HPU capitalized on 13 Flames errors in the set to bring home the 25-15 set win and 3-1 match win.
Up Next: High Point travels to Kennesaw State on Friday where they meet Furman and Kennesaw State. The Panthers will also travel to No. 3 Wisconsin on Sunday to face off against the Badgers and Marquette.
