CLINTON, S.C. – The High Point University baseball team picked up a 9-3 win over Presbyterian and secured its spot in the six-team 2022 Big South Baseball Championships.
Carter Sheppard picked up the win on the mound while
Teddy Merritt earned his first save of the season.

The Blue Hose jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead through the third inning, but HPU put together a three-run rally in the top of the fourth to secure the lead.
Peyton Carr led off with a walk and scored on
Adam Stuart's double down the left field line.
Andrew Amato continued the trend with a double to right field and switched places on the basepaths with Stuart.
Blake Sutton tallied an RBI with a singled up the middle to score Amato and help the Panthers take the lead.
High Point added another run in the seventh as
Jackson Melton led off with a ground-rule double and scored as
Javon Fields reached on an error and advanced to second base. Two more Panther runs crossed the plate in the eighth as Sutton reached on an error before
Josh Deslauriers knocked a two-run homer to left field to give HPU the 6-2 lead.
HPU added three more runs in the ninth when Carr led off with a walk
Cameron Lee reached on a fielder's choice and an error allowed Carr to reach second base safely. Stuart singled to load the bases but Carr was thrown out at home trying to take an extra base.
Justin Ebert's single loaded the bases again, and
Cole Singsank picked up three RBI with a bases-clearing double to give HPU the 9-3 victory.
